123 guests from 42 countries of the world, as well as designers, scientists and researchers, and representatives of a number of jewelry enterprises took part in this year’s conference, which was organized in accordance with the decision of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On holding the International Goldsmith and Jewelry Festival” adopted on April 29, 2021. The festival and About 4,500 foreign tourists and more than 15,000 local guests took part in the colorful events within it.

“We are very pleased to participate in this festival,” says Mustafa Erjan Ozgur, the founder of the Turkish company Gemetis. — There is a great potential for the development of the jewelry industry in Uzbekistan. At the meeting with the leaders of Bukhara region, we thought about sharing experience and cooperation in this direction.

“This festival was memorable for me,” says another interviewee, Oroltash Khurramova from Surkhandarya. – I have been creating in the direction of calligraphy, combining goldsmithing and embroidery. I attended master classes of experienced craftsmen. New ideas were born. I am the head of the circle at the educational center for training Afghan citizens in Termiz. What I learned here will certainly be useful in my work.

The international scientific and practical conference held at the Bukhara State University on the topic of “Prospects of development of traditional goldsmithing and jewelry art” aroused great interest among the participants. It was attended by A. Murtazoyev, president of the Asia and Pacific region of the World Council of Craftsmen, Yu Yao Wan, honorary professor of Dong Hwa National University (Taiwan), general director of the state unitary enterprise of arts and crafts “Agidel” of the Republic of Bashkortostan (Russian Federation), Guzel Karimova, academician of the UzFA A. Hakimov. and others discussed the rich experience gained in the field of goldsmithing and jewelry, their role in the lives of the peoples of the world, and the issues awaiting solution.

As noted at the conference, there is not a neighborhood in our country where folk art has not penetrated. Currently, the number of members of “Hunarmand” association is more than 25,000. There are 65 thousand students. A significant part of the members of the association are goldsmiths and jewelers. These evidences mean that these two directions of folk art have been passed down from generation to generation and are getting polished. Therefore, bringing traditions to a new level and creating jobs is an urgent issue.

– There is a saying that “even if there is only one woman left in the world, there will be a job for a goldsmith.” – These two directions of folk art are so polished that they do not suffer at all. That is the secret of the craft. The fact that artisans and art experts from all over the world have gathered in Bukhara because of the international festival is a sign of many things.
