Yesterday, a joyful announcement spread among the artisans of Karakalpakstan. According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a decree on awarding state awards in connection with 8 March – International Women’s Day, craftswoman B. Kunnazarova was awarded the “Dustlik” Order.
Bibisara Kunazarova is a skilled craftswoman who decorates traditional black yurts (utov). She has been working for years in the craft of weaving white and red patterns, “baskurs,” passed down from generation to generation.
Her work is guided by the motto “Art reaches its peak.” Her main goal is to involve the local population in handicrafts and create real opportunities to improve their well-being.
Art historians, scholars, and enthusiasts regard her products for their national distinctive features and quality. They praise her deep knowledge of patterns in carpet weaving, her working style, traditionalism, and fine artistic taste. They also acknowledge her ability to adapt national designs into contemporary forms in line with new styles and directions.
B. Kunnazarova has regularly participated in national and international exhibitions, competitions, and trade fairs, earning prize-winning positions. To date, she has taught her craft to nearly 70 apprentices.
